Different Treatments for Acne

Acne is a big problem for many people although it is most common in teens that are starting puberty. It can cause severe confidence problems and can make people feel unhappy with their appearance, resulting in low self esteem issues. However, acne can be treated by a combination of the right diet and the right skincare routine.

Acne is a severe outbreak of spots, but these tips will still help those of you who suffer from only occasional spots of breakouts. It can be found on the face, back and neck and is common in both males and females during their teens, although it can carry on well into your thirties, forties and even fifties in rare cases.

The cause of acne is due to excess oil levels in the skin which results in the blocked pores. This gets infected and causes a spot. This can be very problematic for people as acne can make them feel very down and unhappy with they way they look. This may then result in a huge loss of confidence with people turning to makeup to try to cover it up, or even shying away from being seen. Therefore, it is important that people treat their acne appropriately and continue to care for their skin even when it has cleared up. Treatments for acne can then ensure that people can be happy, confident and secure with how they look and can prevent the severity of other problems which it can create for people such as low self esteem.

Acne skin treatment can vary depending on the severity of the acne. For example, some people may be able to simply purchase over the counter products such as gels, creams and lotions containing benzoyl peroxide to help treat their condition, whereas others with a more extreme case of acne may have to seek medical treatment from their GP in order for it to clear up.

Products containing benzoyl peroxide have three main actions.

It kills bacteria, helps to unplug blocked pores and reduce inflammation. It usually works very well to clear blackheads, whiteheads and inflamed spots. This is a common acne skin treatment but remember that skincare treatments will not work if you are not caring for your skin well too. Ensure you do not irritate the skin by not washing affected areas any more than twice a day, as frequent washing can make symptoms worse. Use lukewarm water with a mild cleanser on the affected area, and do not squeeze spots no matter how tempting it is as this can lead to permanent scarring. Avoid wearing too much make up and cosmetics which can block the pores too. Finally, by simply drinking water and exercising you can improve the condition of your skin.

A doctor may prescribe topical retinoids which work by reducing sebum production, or oil, while preventing dead skin cells from blocking hair follicles. They are available in a gel or cream and are normally applied once a day before you go to bed. They may also prescribe antibiotics but this is a short term solution only as prolonged use can make your body immune to them.

In addition to this different topical treatment products are available to suit all skin types whether that is products for oily skin, dry skin or combination skin. These gels, creams and lotions have been designed especially for the specified skin type, as treating oily skin is not the same as treating spots on dry skin, so targeted products are always best. Therefore, it is essential that when selecting treatments for acne that you chose products that will work correctly on your skin type otherwise they will not help to clear up your acne as much as others could.

In conclusion, treatments for acne can help to prevent the common problems created when people get acne such as low self esteem. Acne skin treatment comes in a variety of forms including gels and creams however when selecting an over the counter treatment it is important that you choose the product designed for your kin type, for example if you have oily skin ensure that you opt for products for oily skin rather than those for dry or combination skin.
